Do I have to be a member of the Spring Lake Yacht Club to take sailing classes?

No you do not. Sailing classes are open to the community.  We would encourage you to become a member, either a family or junior membership, so that you can enjoy our club, including all of the social and sailing events we have throughout the summer!  For more information please visit the SLYC website www.springlakeyachtclub.com

What should my child bring to sailing class?

All sailors are required to bring and wear a US Coast Guard approved life jacket and non slip shoes. Other items to bring to class may include a hat, sun screen, swim suit, towel, sun glasses, and jacket or sweatshirt.

Do I have to have my own boat?

No. The Spring Lake Junior Sailing Association has a fleet of 8 Optimist Prams, 6 Butterflys and 1 MC Scow. The boats are used during sailing lessons, and can also be used by sailing students for Wednesday races and Optis for the Friday WMYSA regattas.

Are classes canceled due to rain, heavy wind or other weather conditions?

No.  Our instructors will do their best to keep everyone busy doing sailing related activities when the weather does not cooperate. These activities may include knot tying, sailing games, word games with sailing terms ... we keep it all engaging and sailing related.
